Trip Leader: Bill Heck
Bill Heck, long time expert birder, member of Columbus Audubon and former AMV member will lead AMV to Battelle – Darby Metro Park, in Galloway, Ohio.
The Metro Park is 7358 acres of forest, prairies and wetlands. It stretches along 13 miles of the Big and Little Darby Creeks – both of which are State and National Scenic Rivers. Besides the areas surrounding the creeks, 1600 acres of restored wetlands and prairies are present. Bison have been reintroduced to the park and roam freely within 2 enclosed pastures. Bill expects to see migrating passerines and waterfowl.
We will meet at the Battelle-Darby Nature Center at 9AM. Numerous exhibits and nature hiking trails are present. Some trails are rocky and grass covered, so good hiking boots are recommended.
For those that wish to carpool, we will meet at TJMaxx parking lot in Oxford at 7AM to carpool. The drive is about 1 ½ hours, just west of Columbus. Bring water and a lunch. We could stop at a restaurant if desired.
