About the Annual Christmas Bird Count

Each year, on a Saturday in late December, Audubon Miami Valley holds its Annual Christmas Bird CountThe data collected from the count, combined with other surveys such as the Breeding Bird Survey, provide a picture of how the continents bird populations have changed in time and space over the past forty years. Local trends provide strategies for protecting birds and their habitats.  They also signal an immediate environmental threat such as groundwater contamination or poisoning from improper use of pesticides
