Although often hidden from sight, Cincinnati is home to a broad diversity of turtles, snakes, lizards, frogs, and salamanders. With a variety of body plans, colors, habitats, and behaviors, they often occupy overlooked niches, but still fill critical ecological roles. Come join Ryan Jorgensen for an exploration of the biology and lives of our "herp" friends, along with a run-through of our local species. As we work our way through the species, also pick up some pointers on the best way to see our oft-underground friends.

Ryan is currently a local herper and former herpetologist based in Cincinnati. He studied the four-toed salamander as part of an undergraduate program and wrote his masters thesis on the climbing abilities of arboreal snakes. He is now also an avid birder, as well as an observer of many other natural phenomena.
